An attractive deep violet colour in the glass. Lifted fruit aromas of licorice, black olive and allspice speak of vineyard rather than the winemaker’s toolkit. When tasted, powerful fruit flavour matched to medium weight is cut with a fine textural tannin input. The long in flavour finish, is matched to fresh natural acidity that completes/balances the wine. An age-worthy refined wine.
Provenance Wines was established in 1996 with one simple aim: make great local wine from great local vineyards. Balance, purity and place form the overarching philosophy that drives their winemaking decisions.
In March 2018, after an extensive renovation we opened our winery and cellar door in a re-purposed bluestone building at the Fyansford Paper Mill.
This historic heritage-listed Paper Mill on the banks of the Barwon River, first opened for business in 1878 as one of the largest paper making manufacturing sites in Victoria. At the time, it employed over 100 women to sort the rags for paper production.
In 1923 The Paper Mill fell on hard times due to WW1 and ceased operation. It was then used as a cool store and ice works, and later as a part manufacture of munitions for WW2. In 1999 the Paper Mill was privately purchased.
