The origin of Capezzana is very ancient, in fact the Etruscans already produced wine 3000 years ago, as can be seen from the shards of the wine vessels found in the fields.
The name Capezzana derives from the lieutenant of Silla, Capitus who would have had the estate from Silla as a gift at the end of his career. Over the centuries the estate has changed many illustrious owners: the Cantucci family, related to the Medici, the Bourbon del Monte marquises, the Adimari Morelli, the Franchetti Rothscilds and in 1920 the Contini Bonaccossi. Over the years the estate has expanded with the acquisition of two new farms of the Marquis Niccolini: "il Poggetto" and "Trefiana".
Today the property of the Bonaccossi Counts reaches 670 hectares, 140 of which are planted with vines and 104 with olive groves and includes 3 farms and 120 farms. The estate is located in the municipality of Carmignano, in the province of Prato, a land particularly suited for the production of wine.
The Tenuta di Capezzana obtained the DOC recognition in 1969 and the DOCG in 1988. The historic cellar, which dates back, in its oldest part to 1500, is located in the central complex of the estate, where the farm and the villa are also located. patronal. Among the wines produced by the Tenuta di Capezzana, the "Villa di Capezzana", an excellent "blend" of Sangiovese and Sauvignon, is worth mentioning.
