The Le Casematte vinyard is situated on the hills on the north side of Messina, it was founded in 2008 by Gianfranco Sabbatino and the famous footballer Andrea Barzagli, united by a common passion for wine.. The name comes from the presence of three 'casematte' between the vineyards, which are little small forts used as shelter by sentries guarding the Strait of Messina during the Second World War.
The vineyard of the Le Casematte winery extends for 10 hectares on calcareous-sandy soils at 500 meters above sea level and is cultivated according to organic farming methods. The will of the two founders is to enhance the Faro, a wine with a thousand-year history, unique for its characteristics, obtained exclusively from native vines. Consistent with the production philosophy, the interventions in the vineyard and in the cellar are as limited as possible, in order to obtain a wine capable of expressing the peculiarities of the territory in the best possible way.
