The Picollo Ernesto farm is located at about 260 m a.s.l. in Rovereto di Gavi, the most prestigious area of the entire Gavi area. From here a few hundred years ago began the cultivation of vineyards with Cortese grapes and the production of good quality white wine. This wine, in the beginning was mainly consumed by the restaurants of the Ligurian Riviera even if very soon it became known throughout Italy. On June 26, 1974 it obtained the DOC and thus its presence in the best Italian and foreign restaurants and wine bars has increased, reaching a very high prestige in a short time. On 9 August 1998, Gavi became DOCG and represents one of the best Italian white wines. The Picollo Company, thanks to the love for this work and the efforts of three generations, has managed to realize the dream of its founder Lorenzo Picollo and with many sacrifices has equipped itself with a modern cellar equipped with stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature and chain for bottling and packaging the bottles. All the processing takes place in respect of traditions and in the sure conviction that a good wine comes only from excellent grapes. Currently the company owns about 7 hectares of vineyards with an average age of 25/30 years, mainly exposed to midday with the possibility already planned to make further extensions. The cultivation of the vineyards takes place according to traditional methods without the use of herbicides.
